Interactive Brokers (IBKR), one of the world’s largest electronic brokerage firms, has launched Ethereum staking for eligible clients, a step towards integration of digital‑asset yield services into traditional financial platforms.

Ethereum staking would allow users to stake ETH directly through the IBKR interface, offering institutional‑grade access to on‑chain rewards without requiring self‑custody or technical setup.

As staking continues to expand across regulated financial channels, IBKR’s entry underscores the growing convergence between traditional markets and blockchain‑based yield infrastructure.

A Major Traditional Brokerage Enters Ethereum Staking

Interactive Brokers’ decision to support Ethereum staking indicate a major change in how regulated financial institutions feel toward offering blockchain‑native yield products.

IBKR clients can now stake ETH and earn rewards generated by Ethereum’s proof‑of‑stake consensus mechanism. The service is available through the firm’s integrated digital‑asset offering, which already includes crypto trading and custody.

IBKR’s move is notable because the firm serves a global client base of hedge funds, asset managers, proprietary trading firms, and high‑net‑worth individuals.

With the added staking, IBKR becomes one of the first major traditional brokerages to offer direct access to Ethereum’s on‑chain yield, bridging a gap between institutional finance and decentralized infrastructure.

The launch comes at a time when staking participation continues to rise across the Ethereum ecosystem.

More than 33 million ETH is currently staked, representing over 27% of the total supply, according to data from the Ethereum Foundation. As staking becomes a mainstream yield mechanism, regulated platforms are increasingly exploring ways to offer compliant access.

How IBKR’s Staking Service Works

Interactive Brokers’ staking service allows clients to stake ETH through the brokerage’s existing digital‑asset interface.

Users do not need to manage validators, run nodes, or interact with decentralized applications. Instead, IBKR handles the technical and operational aspects, including validator management, reward distribution, and security.

Rewards are credited directly to client accounts, similar to how IBKR handles interest payments or dividend distributions. The firm has not publicly disclosed its exact reward rate, but IBKR’s staking yields are designed to reflect on‑chain returns minus operational fees.

The service is available to eligible clients in select jurisdictions, subject to regulatory requirements. IBKR’s digital‑asset offerings are provided through Paxos Trust Company, a regulated custodian that supports crypto trading and custody for the brokerage.

The partnership ensures that staking operations comply with U.S. regulatory standards, including custody, reporting, and risk controls.

Ethereum’s Staking Landscape is A Growing Institutional Market

Ethereum’s transition to proof‑of‑stake in 2022 fundamentally changed how the network secures itself. Instead of miners, validators stake ETH to participate in consensus and earn rewards. This shift created a new yield market that has attracted both retail and institutional participants.

Institutional staking has grown rapidly, driven by custodians such as Coinbase, Kraken, and Figment. Regulated staking services allow institutions to participate without managing infrastructure, reducing operational risk.

IBKR’s entry adds a new dimension to this landscape. Unlike crypto‑native platforms, IBKR serves traditional financial clients who may not be comfortable interacting with decentralized systems. With this, IBKR lowers barriers to entry and expands institutional participation.

The move also comes as interest rises in staking from asset managers. Several Ethereum ETFs have explored staking as a way to enhance returns, though regulatory approval remains pending.

As staking becomes more integrated into traditional financial products, demand for compliant staking infrastructure is expected to grow.
