A Bitcoin whale that has stayed dormant for six years has moved Bitcoin worth over 380 million U.S. Dollars. This amounted to 4,582 Bitcoin, transferred to five wallets. This follows another whale that was dormant for four years that moved 4,500 Bitcoin worth 375 million U.S. Dollars.

Crypto Whale Psychology

A whale refers to an entity or an individual that holds a large amount—and transacts in large quantities—assets. They usually influence markets, and it is part of the key psychology that must be studied.

“‘A whale moved coins’ is one of the crypto media’s favorite alarms. Sometimes movement matters. Sometimes it is custody maintenance. The alert itself can move sentiment even when the coins never reach an order book. Whale analysis becomes useful when we compare position size with liquidity, identify the venue, and separate what the network proves from what people imagine. The survival lesson is simple: do not trade an alert before understanding its uncertainty.”

Known founders or funds can affect confidence by disclosing a purchase, sale, or commitment. Their reputation can attract followers. Disclosure quality matters. Ask whether the position, compensation, lockup, and conflicts are clear. A public statement can be truthful while presenting only one part of a portfolio, according to analysts at DOPAY.

What to Look For:

One must seek in a whale:

  • The legal person controlling the address;
  • Beneficial ownership behind a custodian;
  • The purpose of the transfer;
  • Whether an exchange deposit was sold;
  • The holder’s complete off-chain position;
  • Whether a transfer was internal;
  • The next action.

Motivations: Do Not Run. Walk, Assess and Stay Informed

While the motivations for the whales’ movement of Bitcoin assets remain unclear, it is easy for investors to speculate—and this is what must be avoided. Movement is a symptom, not a definite indicator, nor a clear reflection of what is happening. Though over 700 million U.S. Dollars have been moved to separate wallets, investors must observe and wait on what will be done with those assets before making informed conclusions—and actionable trades. Caution must be taken before preemptive action.
