Collaboration with Tempo

MoneyGram, the international remittance giant, on May 20 announced a partnership with Tempo, a blockchain company for payments.

In the partnership, MoneyGram serves as Tempo’s validator, helping with network operations, security, and reliability. Representatives from MoneyGram have stated that the company will deepen blockchain infrastructure and promote stablecoin-based payments on global networks.

Tempo is an emerging blockchain that specializes in payment applications such as stablecoins and artificial intelligence (AI) agents. Payment giant Stripe and venture capital giant Paradigm were the first to invest in Tempo. Visa, Stripe, and Zodia Custody announced last month that they had become validators as well.

In its announcement, MoneyGram said that collaboration with Tempo is a strategic step in its plan to build an open and interoperable global payment network on stablecoin infrastructure.

The company also stated that the payment network Tempo operates across different blockchains, countries, and all remittance methods.

MoneyGram reminds that it offers decades of experience operating the world’s largest remittance network, institutional-level compliance foundations, and operational scale, striving to ensure blockchain functions in over 200 countries and regions.

MoneyGram and Tempo will leverage stablecoin infrastructure on a large scale, operating with the robustness that the industry demands.

Planning Collaboration

MoneyGram added that as part of this partnership, the company, Tempo, and Stripe plan to introduce internal stablecoin settlements into actual payment flows. In particular, Stripe will use the infrastructure of Tempo  to make payments to MoneyGram.

The company said that the system will improve the efficiency of fund management and payment operations in MoneyGram’s global business expansion. According to the company, the plan reflects Moneygram’s focus on practical blockchain utilization related to actual payment flows and consumer usefulness.

With regard to its plans for the future, MoneyGram has explained that it plans to explore other ways to collaborate with Tempo and expand support into the cryptocurrency asset ecosystem.

“As stablecoins and blockchain technology are increasingly adopted into mainstream financial services, our company is actively building next-generation payment infrastructure.

“Tempo is a specialized blockchain that shares the idea of solving real consumer problems, and is a natural partner embodying this initiative,’ said MoneyGram CEO Anthony Soohoo.
