Blockchain is now revolutionizing into an “Infrastructure of Trust” especially in the Japanese market which warmly embraced this technology. Coinpost mentioned that the chief executive officer of Cardano Foundation, Frederik Gregaard, urged Happoen, Tokyo last April 8, 2026, during the TEAMZ SUMMIT 2026 to dive into more intricate layers of trust infrastructure.
Blockchain as Compliance Automation
In an article published for Computer Fraud and Security, it was highlighted that blockchain works as a trust infrastructure within regulatory technology ecosystems which includes compliance automation using smart contracts, stakeholder alignment through transparent records, and eradicating single-point vulnerabilities in a centralized system.
The technical mechanism of a trust infrastructure can be seen in tamper-proof ledgers, automated smart contracts, and distributed assurance networks. Some key reasons a blockchain is a “Trust Infrastructure” includes decentralization, immutability and security, consensus mechanism, cryptographic verification, and most importantly – trustless interaction which builds trust by removing the need for it as stated in Exin.
Digital Economy Foundation
Cardano Foundation introduced the Digital Trust Infrastructure as a foundation of new digital economy. It elaborated on the five layers that Gregaard continuously advocates. These five layers are illustrated as a stack of Digital Trust Infrastructure that starts with Trusted Data Fabric independent from data sources. Followed by a Digital Identity Fabric which connects standards, entities, and blockchain. Next, Authoritative Registries and Data Exchange validate the source of data to establish trusted networks. Then, Digital Payments and Programmable Value translate verifiable data into economic action for value exchange. Finally, Universal Intelligence serves as a cognitive backplane and a service layer. The final layer is an emerging concept that challenges the practical application of agentic Artificial Intelligence which Gregaard mentioned during the event.
