Funding Rounds to Value Binance.US at $1 Billion; Below its 2022 Valuation of $4.5 Billion

Red bar graph shows a downward trend

After a proposed funding round of 100 million U.S. dollars, this would potentially put Binance U.S.’s valuation at 1 billion U.S. dollars. This comes after a weakened platform that had faced regulatory scrutiny in the U.S. saw declining trading activity and market share.

In 2023, Binance’s co-founder Changpeng Zhao pled guilty to a felony charge, and Binance had to pay 4.3 billion U.S. dollars as part of the settlement. Zhao served four months in prison—and was later pardoned by President Trump in 2025.

Though the legal battles have largely settled, this has diminished consumer confidence on the platform; Binance has lost its market share in the U.S.; and its valuation has consequently shrunk.

This is a stark contrast to 2022, where the company was valued at 4.5 billion U.S. dollars; and where currently, its market share stands at around 35-38%.

In 2022, Binance reported that “it invested $1 billion to launch an industry recovery plan and promised to increase the investment to $2 billion if necessary. We invested more than $500 million through Binance Labs to support Web3 and blockchain innovation, launched the fifth season of the incubation program, and made decisions on 14 strategic M&A projects and 61 token investment projects.

At a time when all walks of life were laying off employees in large numbers, Binance bucked the trend and recruited people from around the world. The team size now exceeds 7,500 people, with members from more than 100 different countries.”

Today, Binance has not yet released a year-end statement reflecting the health of the company, nor its subsidiary, Binance.US.

But with a vastly lower valuation, Binance.US is presumed to have lower liquidity, and thus, lower purchasing power for staff, expansion, and growth.

According to Bloomberg, “Binance.US is also exploring prediction markets and the restoration of certain state money-transmitting licenses as part of its expansion plans, according to Bloomberg. Binance.US is considering tapping external liquidity providers, with the global Binance platform among the options under consideration”.

With the funding rounds, Binance.US therefore seeks to expand its services to, hopefully, be more competitive amidst a backdrop of heavy competition from the likes of OKX, Crypto.com, Coinbase, and Bybit.

Cryptobriefing reports: “Under CEO Stephen Gregory, appointed in March, the exchange has been working to restore trading activity and expand its product offerings.” Binance, the global platform beyond Binance.US, is one of the options to be funded in the funding rounds.
