Market Overview
Digital asset markets entered August 31 in a more defensive configuration after the Federal Reserve pushed back against expectations for easier monetary policy and geopolitical risk returned to the Strait of Hormuz. Bitcoin traded near $77,960, Ethereum around $2,412, and XRP close to $1.37 in the latest CoinGlass market snapshot. Bitcoin was approximately unchanged over seven days, while Ethereum had slipped about 1.7% and XRP had fallen more than 9% as the high-beta portion of the August rally continued to unwind.
The principal macro reversal came from Jackson Hole. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized that policymakers still have work to do if underlying inflation is not moving clearly and sufficiently toward the central bank’s 2% objective. Reuters reported that market-implied odds of a September Federal Reserve rate increase jumped to 55.7% from 35.4% before the speech, according to CME FedWatch data.
The shift matters because the August crypto breakout had been supported partly by expectations that U.S. policymakers would tolerate easier financial conditions. Bitcoin briefly reached approximately $81,455 before the Jackson Hole reversal, then fell toward the upper-$76,000 region. Ethereum retreated from above $2,500, while XRP reversed from its earlier August high near $1.70. The market has stabilized since the initial selloff, but the policy backdrop is now less supportive than it was during the liquidity-driven acceleration in mid-August.
Institutional flows also diverged sharply on Friday. Farside Investors reported $201.9 million of net outflows from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs on August 28, ending a nine-session inflow streak that had accumulated approximately $3.04 billion since August 17. The reversal was broad, with outflows from BlackRock, Bitwise, ARKB and VanEck partially offset by a modest inflow into Morgan Stanley’s product.
Ethereum funds showed the opposite behavior. Farside Investors reported approximately $102.1 million of net Ether ETF inflows on August 28, extending Ethereum’s positive sequence to ten consecutive trading sessions. Aggregate subscriptions across those ten sessions reached approximately $1.51 billion, indicating that regulated investors continued accumulating ETH even as price corrected following the Fed’s hawkish message.
XRP produced an even more pronounced price-flow divergence. SoSoValue data showed U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracting approximately $26.2 million on August 28 and approximately $110.49 million for the week, their strongest weekly inflow of 2026. Cumulative net inflows reached approximately $1.66 billion and total net assets approximately $1.44 billion. The token nevertheless traded down toward the $1.37 region as leveraged positions and shorter-duration holders reduced exposure.
Market sentiment remains bullish in absolute terms but has cooled from the local extreme. Alternative.me’s Crypto Fear & Greed measure stood near 69 on August 30, classified as Greed, compared with readings above 70 during the peak of the breakout. The moderation is consistent with a market shifting from rapid momentum expansion toward consolidation and position cleanup.
Derivatives conditions show substantial deleveraging without full capitulation. CoinGlass placed Bitcoin open interest near $54.24 billion, down from approximately $57-$58 billion around the push above $80,000. Ethereum open interest stood near $31.62 billion, while XRP open interest was approximately $3.22 billion, below the $3.7-$3.8 billion region reached during the high-beta phase of the rally.
The geopolitical risk premium also increased materially entering Monday. Reuters reported that U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, the first known American strikes on Iran since late July. Brent crude rose 2.5% to approximately $90.32 a barrel and WTI gained 2.4% to approximately $85.41. Higher energy prices reinforce the inflation risk emphasized by the Federal Reserve and create an additional headwind for liquidity-sensitive assets.
The immediate market regime is therefore more balanced than either the mid-August breakout or Friday’s selloff alone suggests. Institutional demand remains substantial, especially in Ethereum and XRP, while leverage has declined from local peaks. At the same time, higher rate expectations, rising oil prices and renewed U.S.-Iran hostilities reduce the probability that digital assets can resume a vertical advance without another cash-market catalyst.
Bitcoin Market Analysis
BTC Narrative
Bitcoin is trading near $77,960 after failing to sustain the late-August move above $80,000. The asset briefly reached approximately $81,455 before Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks triggered a broader repricing of rate expectations. The subsequent decline toward the upper-$76,000 region erased the immediate breakout but did not return Bitcoin to the pre-rally range below $70,000.
The ETF channel remains structurally supportive despite Friday’s reversal. U.S. spot Bitcoin funds recorded nine consecutive positive sessions from August 17 through August 27, accumulating approximately $3.04 billion. The streak included multiple sessions above $300 million and a $606.3 million inflow on August 20, establishing one of the strongest institutional accumulation sequences of 2026.
Friday interrupted that pattern. Farside Investors recorded approximately $201.9 million of Bitcoin ETF redemptions on August 28. BlackRock’s IBIT lost approximately $33.4 million, Bitwise’s BITB lost $49.7 million, ARKB recorded roughly $114.9 million of outflows, and VanEck lost approximately $13.2 million. Morgan Stanley attracted approximately $9.3 million, but the inflow was insufficient to offset the broader selling.
The weekly picture remains positive despite the final-session reversal. Bitcoin ETFs attracted approximately $924.5 million across the five trading sessions from August 24 through August 28. Friday’s outflow therefore looks more like profit-taking and macro repositioning than a complete institutional abandonment of the August accumulation thesis.
The derivatives market has also undergone a meaningful reset. CoinGlass placed Bitcoin futures open interest near $54.24 billion, down several billion dollars from the high reached around the $80,000 breakout. Twenty-four-hour futures turnover stood near $40.2 billion compared with approximately $2.23 billion of spot activity, leaving futures volume roughly eighteen times larger than reported cash-market turnover.
Approximately $45 million of Bitcoin futures positions were liquidated during the latest 24-hour reporting window. That figure is far below the liquidation totals recorded during the August short squeeze and the Jackson Hole reversal. The reduction suggests that the market has already removed a meaningful portion of both bearish and late bullish leverage.
The Fed remains the principal macro constraint. Warsh’s remarks pushed the implied probability of a September rate increase above 50%, reversing part of the dovish repricing that had supported Bitcoin during the previous two weeks. A further rise in real yields would increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets and challenge the dollar-debasement narrative that helped drive Bitcoin above $80,000.
Geopolitics adds a second inflation channel. Renewed U.S.-Iran military activity in the Strait of Hormuz pushed Brent crude back above $90 on Monday. Bitcoin has previously traded poorly when energy-market disruptions simultaneously raise inflation expectations and reduce global risk appetite. The latest move therefore requires monitoring even though Bitcoin has so far remained near $78,000 rather than experiencing an immediate geopolitical liquidation.
The next important macro reference is the August U.S. employment report later this week. With monetary-policy expectations now shifting toward another possible rate increase, weaker labor data could partially offset the hawkish Jackson Hole message, while resilient employment and wage growth would reinforce the argument for tighter policy.
BTC Technical & Liquidity Structure
Immediate support is concentrated between $77,000 and $78,000. Bitcoin is currently trading inside the upper portion of this corridor after the Jackson Hole selloff. Continued acceptance above $77,000 would support the interpretation that the decline represents consolidation within the August breakout rather than a complete trend reversal.
The stronger tactical support lies between $75,000 and $76,500. This region contains substantial post-breakout trading activity and sits below Friday’s approximately $76,900 intraday low. A controlled retracement into the zone would remain technically compatible with the broader institutional accumulation structure.
Below $75,000, the next important liquidity zone is concentrated between $72,000 and $74,000. A sustained daily close below $72,000 would indicate that the market had surrendered a substantial portion of the August breakout and would expose the psychologically important $69,000-$70,000 region.
Immediate resistance lies between $79,000 and $80,000. The market must first regain this area before attempting to challenge the larger $80,800-$81,500 supply zone that rejected price immediately before the Jackson Hole speech.
A confirmed daily close above $81,500 would materially improve the technical structure and expose $83,000-$85,000. Beyond $85,000, thinner historical trading activity could support accelerated price discovery toward $88,000-$90,000 if institutional subscriptions resume.
Order-book analysis around Friday’s selloff showed significant bid liquidity between approximately $75,000 and $78,500 and a major sell wall between roughly $80,800 and $83,000. This creates a relatively well-defined short-term institutional range: demand remains visible below current price, while substantial supply continues to cap attempts at new highs.
The preferred continuation is consolidation rather than another immediate vertical move. Bitcoin holding $75,000-$78,000 while open interest declines and ETF flows stabilize would allow leverage to normalize. A rebound above $80,000 accompanied by rapidly expanding futures exposure but weak ETF demand would carry a higher probability of another rejection.
BTC Forecast
The base case is consolidation between $75,000 and $81,500 with a neutral-to-moderately constructive bias while Bitcoin holds above $77,000. A sustained recovery through $80,000 followed by a daily close above $81,500 would reopen $83,000-$85,000 and potentially $88,000. A sustained break below $75,000 would increase downside risk toward $72,000-$74,000, while a close below $70,000 would materially challenge the August institutional breakout. Higher oil prices, another increase in September rate-hike expectations, or renewed ETF redemptions would shift the near-term probability toward the lower side of that range.
Ethereum Market Analysis
ETH Narrative
Ethereum is trading near $2,412 after declining approximately 1.8% over 24 hours and roughly 1.7% over seven days. ETH has given back part of the late-August advance but remains substantially above the sub-$2,000 levels that preceded the institutional breakout earlier in the month.
The most important Ethereum signal is the persistence of regulated fund demand. Farside Investors reported approximately $102.1 million of net Ether ETF inflows on August 28. That marked the tenth consecutive positive session beginning August 17 and lifted cumulative subscriptions across the streak to approximately $1.51 billion.
BlackRock continued to dominate institutional allocation on Friday with approximately $83.8 million into ETHA and another $42.6 million into its second Ethereum vehicle. Fidelity recorded approximately $24.3 million of outflows, but the overall market remained strongly positive.
The divergence from Bitcoin is notable. Bitcoin ETFs moved into a $201.9 million daily outflow after the Fed’s hawkish speech, while Ethereum products continued absorbing supply. The difference suggests that some institutional portfolios are reallocating toward Ethereum after Bitcoin led the initial August breakout.
Ethereum’s cash-market support is therefore considerably stronger than it was earlier in 2026. The ten-session ETF streak has been accompanied by large corporate treasury holdings, extensive staking and continued use of ETH in decentralized finance and tokenized-asset markets. Those channels collectively remove a significant quantity of tokens from immediately available exchange liquidity.
Price performance has nevertheless weakened because derivatives remain dominant. CoinGlass placed Ethereum futures open interest near $31.62 billion, with approximately $38.6 billion of 24-hour futures turnover compared with roughly $1.78 billion of spot activity. Futures turnover therefore exceeded reported spot volume by more than twenty times.
Approximately $109 million of Ethereum futures positions were liquidated during the latest 24-hour reporting period. That is materially larger than Bitcoin’s current liquidation total and highlights ETH’s greater sensitivity to leverage after the high-beta rally from below $1,900 to above $2,500.
The decline in Ethereum open interest from earlier peaks above $33 billion is constructive if price can stabilize. A market in which leveraged positions close while regulated funds continue accumulating represents a materially healthier setup than one in which price is sustained solely through increasing perpetual-futures exposure.
The macro risk remains considerable. Ethereum historically exhibits greater sensitivity than Bitcoin to rising real yields and tighter global financial conditions. Warsh’s Jackson Hole message and renewed oil-price pressure therefore create a larger proportional downside risk for ETH if rate-hike expectations continue increasing.
The institutional counterargument is equally important. A ten-session ETF inflow streak during a price correction indicates that regulated investors are not simply chasing momentum. If those flows continue while derivatives open interest declines, the current weakness could represent an institutional accumulation phase rather than the beginning of a sustained reversal.
ETH Technical & Liquidity Structure
Immediate support is concentrated between $2,380 and $2,420. Ethereum is trading directly inside this area following the Jackson Hole correction. A sustained defense would preserve the post-breakout structure and suggest that ETF demand is beginning to offset derivatives-led selling.
The stronger support corridor lies between $2,300 and $2,350. This area contains the principal late-August breakout-retest zone and should attract both institutional and tactical demand if the market experiences another wave of macro-driven deleveraging.
Below $2,300, structural support is concentrated between $2,200 and $2,250. A daily close below $2,200 would materially weaken the August recovery and expose $2,050-$2,100.
Immediate resistance has shifted to $2,450-$2,500. Ethereum must reclaim this corridor before the market can again challenge the $2,530-$2,550 area that contained price before Friday’s selloff.
A confirmed close above $2,550 would restore momentum toward $2,600-$2,650. Above that region, the next meaningful institutional supply zone lies between $2,700 and $2,750.
The liquidity configuration remains constructive beneath the surface but fragile in the derivatives market. Continued ETF subscriptions combined with open interest falling below $30-$31 billion would create a stronger accumulation setup. A rapid rebound driven by open interest returning above $33 billion without corresponding spot demand would increase the probability of another long-liquidation cycle.
ETH Forecast
The base case is consolidation between $2,300 and $2,550 with a neutral-to-moderately constructive bias while Ethereum remains above $2,380-$2,400. A recovery above $2,500 followed by sustained acceptance above $2,550 would expose $2,600-$2,650 and potentially $2,700. A daily close below $2,300 would increase downside risk toward $2,200-$2,250, while a break below $2,200 would materially challenge the August institutional breakout. Continued ETF inflows while leverage contracts would strengthen the probability that the current correction establishes a medium-term floor.
XRP Market Analysis
XRP Narrative
XRP is trading near $1.37 after declining approximately 1.9% over 24 hours and more than 9% over seven days. The token remains well above the approximately $1.00 parity level that defined early August but has now retraced roughly one-fifth from its recent high near $1.70.
The correction stands in sharp contrast to regulated fund activity. SoSoValue data showed U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracting approximately $26.2 million on August 28, extending one of the strongest institutional accumulation sequences since the products launched.
Weekly XRP ETF inflows reached approximately $110.49 million for the week ending August 28, the highest weekly total of 2026 and more than double the previous annual high near $60.5 million recorded in May. Trading volume across the products also rose to approximately $363 million, the busiest weekly period since launch.
Cumulative XRP ETF net inflows reached approximately $1.66 billion, while combined assets stood near $1.44 billion. Bitwise led Friday’s inflows with approximately $15.4 million and Canary Capital added roughly $5.1 million. The institutional demand is therefore broad enough to represent a meaningful supply-absorption channel rather than a single-fund anomaly.
The divergence between price and flows is one of the most important cross-asset signals entering September. XRP fell approximately 8%-9% over the latest week even as ETFs recorded their strongest inflow week of the year. That implies that spot-market profit-taking and derivatives deleveraging are currently larger than the regulated institutional bid.
CoinGlass placed XRP open interest near $3.22 billion, down materially from the approximately $3.7-$3.8 billion peak reached during the rally toward $1.70. The reduction is substantial but leaves open interest almost $1 billion above the roughly $2.25 billion six-month low observed earlier in August.
Twenty-four-hour XRP futures turnover was approximately $3.13 billion compared with around $546 million of spot activity. Derivatives turnover therefore remained roughly 5.7 times larger than reported cash-market volume. Approximately $6 million of XRP futures positions were liquidated during the same period.
The falling price and declining open interest are more consistent with leveraged longs closing than with an aggressive expansion in new short positions. That distinction is constructive for medium-term positioning because the market is reducing speculative exposure while regulated funds continue accumulating.
The fundamental institutional backdrop remains favorable. ETF ownership is expanding, XRP Ledger settlement infrastructure remains active, and regulated interest in tokenized assets and stablecoins continues developing. Those factors do not eliminate near-term supply from investors who accumulated XRP near $1.00, but they create a substantially stronger structural demand base than existed earlier in 2026.
The immediate macro environment remains unfavorable for a high-beta continuation. Higher U.S. rate expectations and a renewed oil-price shock increase the cost of speculative capital. XRP will therefore need either continued record fund inflows or a broader improvement in crypto risk appetite to regain the $1.50-$1.60 region.
XRP Technical & Liquidity Structure
Immediate support is concentrated between $1.35 and $1.38. XRP is trading directly against this region following the correction from approximately $1.70. A sustained defense would preserve a higher-low structure relative to the breakout from the $1.00 region.
The stronger support corridor lies between $1.30 and $1.33. This region represents the next important liquidity concentration and should attract tactical buyers if late-August long deleveraging continues.
Below $1.30, structural support lies between $1.20 and $1.25. A sustained daily close below $1.20 would materially weaken the institutional breakout structure and expose the former acceleration zone near $1.10-$1.15.
Immediate resistance lies between $1.40 and $1.42. XRP must first establish acceptance above this corridor before targeting the more consequential $1.48-$1.50 area.
Above $1.50, resistance is concentrated between $1.55 and $1.60. A confirmed daily close through $1.60 would restore a constructive momentum regime and reopen the prior high near $1.69-$1.70.
The liquidity setup is unusually constructive beneath weak price momentum. ETF demand is at a 2026 record while derivatives leverage is declining. If XRP holds $1.30-$1.35 as open interest continues normalizing, the market could enter a healthier institutional accumulation range. A breakdown through $1.30 despite record fund demand would instead indicate that available spot supply remains substantially larger than the regulated bid.
XRP Forecast
The base case is consolidation between $1.30 and $1.50 with a neutral bias while XRP remains below $1.42. A sustained recovery through $1.42 would expose $1.48-$1.50, while acceptance above $1.50 would improve the probability of a move toward $1.55-$1.60. Continued record ETF inflows could eventually support another test of $1.70. A daily close below $1.30 would increase downside risk toward $1.20-$1.25, while a break below $1.20 would materially challenge the August recovery.

Final Assessment
The digital-asset market enters the final day of August with its institutional foundation intact but its macro environment materially less favorable than it was during the mid-month breakout. Bitcoin remains near $78,000 after absorbing a hawkish Federal Reserve repricing and the first Bitcoin ETF outflow in nine sessions. Ethereum has corrected toward $2,400 while U.S. funds extended their inflow streak to ten consecutive trading days, and XRP has fallen toward $1.37 despite recording its strongest ETF inflow week of 2026. The divergence between regulated accumulation and weaker spot performance indicates that institutional capital remains present, but existing-holder supply and derivatives deleveraging are temporarily dominating marginal price formation.
The immediate risk balance has shifted toward rates and geopolitics. Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks pushed the implied probability of a September Federal Reserve increase to approximately 56%, while renewed U.S.-Iran military activity has driven Brent crude above $90 and revived the possibility of another inflationary energy shock. At the same time, leverage has declined across Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP from their late-August peaks, reducing the probability of a disorderly liquidation cascade. The preferred institutional scenario is therefore continued consolidation while fund demand absorbs supply: Bitcoin defending $75,000-$77,000, Ethereum holding $2,300-$2,400, and XRP maintaining $1.30-$1.35 would preserve the August structural improvement. Sustained recoveries above $81,500, $2,550 and $1.50 respectively would indicate that institutional cash demand has regained control, while breaks below those principal support zones would signal that tighter financial conditions are beginning to overpower the strongest crypto fund-flow cycle of the summer.
