Anthropic has partnered with the United Kingdom’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to support the second cohort of the FCA’s Supercharged Sandbox by providing access to its Claude AI models.

Through this collaboration, participating organizations will be able to use Claude, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork to develop and test artificial intelligence (AI) solutions within a secure and regulated environment.

The Supercharged Sandbox is designed to help financial institutions safely explore AI technologies before deploying them in real-world operations.

The program allows firms to experiment under regulatory oversight, enabling participants to identify potential risks, improve AI models, and ensure that new technologies comply with applicable regulations.

This initiative demonstrates the FCA’s commitment to encouraging responsible AI innovation while maintaining the stability and integrity of the financial sector.

Expanding AI Innovation in Financial Services

The second cohort of the Supercharged Sandbox includes 21 organizations across the financial services industry, including Scottish Widows, Money Advice Trust, and TrueLayer.

These participants will explore a variety of AI applications that have the potential to improve operational efficiency and customer service.

Some of the projects involve agent-led payments, fraud detection, compliance automation, and AI governance.

Interest in the program has also grown significantly. According to the FCA, it received 199 applications for the second cohort, representing a 51% increase compared to the first round.

The growing number of applicants reflects the increasing demand among financial institutions for opportunities to develop and evaluate AI solutions within a supervised and controlled environment.

Strengthening AI Adoption Through Collaboration and Training

The Supercharged Sandbox builds upon the FCA’s existing partnerships with NVIDIA and NayaOne, which provide participants with the computing infrastructure and development tools needed to support AI experimentation.

“The high level of interest in the Supercharged Sandbox demonstrates the demand for trusted environments where firms can experiment safely and responsibly,” said Jessica Rusu, chief data, intelligence and information officer, FCA.

With the support of Anthropic, participants will benefit from the technology they need to accelerate innovation

“This is central to our commitment to supporting economic growth – enabling firms to make the most of technological advances while maintaining the UK’s position at the forefront of responsible AI adoption and innovation,” Rusu added.

The FCA has also launched a 10-week Agentic Academy in partnership with the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship.

In addition to the Supercharged Sandbox, the FCA continues to offer its AI Live Testing program, which supports organizations that are ready to implement AI solutions in live market environments.

Anthropic’s participation in the FCA’s Supercharged Sandbox marks a significant step toward integrating responsible AI into financial innovation.

By combining advanced computing infrastructure with ethical oversight, the initiative reinforces the UK’s leadership in shaping transparent, secure, and forward-thinking AI governance across the financial sector.
