System for Merchants and Delivery Workers in More Than 40 Countries

On April 21, 2026, U.S. food delivery giant DoorDash announced a partnership with payment-specialized blockchain Tempo to build a stablecoin payment infrastructure for merchants and delivery workers in more than 40 countries.

Payments made to merchants and delivery workers’ compensation will be switched to a system that can be completed in less than one second, compared to the usual several days. This is expected to lead to improved cash flow for merchants and speedier receipt of salaries for delivery workers.

With this, DoorDash will generate about $75 billion (approximately 12 trillion yen) in merchant sales and upwards of $20 billion (approximately 3.2 trillion yen) in rewards worldwide, and a portion of that settlement volume will be transferred to stablecoin rails.

Andy Huang, DoorDash co-founder, said, “Stablecoins have the potential to change financial infrastructure not only in the United States, but also on a global scale,” indicating that the platform will take the lead initiative.

Demonstration of Individual Payments at Work in Japan

The plan of DoorDash is an example of how companies that use stablecoins are moving from the demonstration stage to full-scale operation.

On April 16, 2026, Tempo also announced “Tempo Zones,” a similar execution environment that lets companies process transactions privately. It is currently rolling out to payroll, fund management, and tokenized deposits.

In Japan, Resona Holdings has begun to develop infrastructure of payments using stablecoins, such as demonstrating payments for individuals using JPYC and USDC in partnership with JCB and Digital Garage.

If instant payment to merchants and delivery workpeople made as practical as the plan of DoorDash, there is a possibility that shorter waiting times for payments will spread in Japan, especially in the food delivery and informal worker areas.
